5 Types of Goals You Must Set for a Remarkable Life – Part 2

Goals allow you to be intentional about your life. And to have a remarkable life, you must set remarkable goals. In this series, I share five types of goals that will help you to build a remarkable life.

In the previous post, I covered contribution goals, which point to acts of service you want to make. They answer the question: How do you want to add value to the lives of others?

Contribution goals focus on what you want to do.

The second type of goals you want to set to help you live a remarkable life focus on who you want to be. These are what I call reputation goals; they can also be called character goals. These goals that support you in becoming the person you want to become (regarding your attitude and character). They aim to lead you to become a better you. In fact, they seek to help you grow into your ideal self.

When people think about you, what attributes, qualities, and behaviors you wish that come to mind? How do you want to be remembered?

Reputation goals require that you do the necessary internal work for you to grow and become a person of character.

For example, if you realize that your mind is consumed by negativity and your spew negativity wherever you go, you might wish to increase your positivity. In light of this, you may set character goals that will change your reputation from a negative person to a positive one.

For instance, you may set the goal of attending 3 inspirational seminar on the power of a positive mindset. As well, you may set goals related to the number of relevant books your read and audio programs you listen to.

If you know you have areas of weakness that require attention, you can set a goal to stimulate you to grow in that area. Thus, using reputation goals, you can decide to become more confident, more loving, a better parent, a better spouse, a better employer.

Never stop growing and strengthening your character by setting reputation goals.
