How Your Personality Influences Your Mindset

Every person on the planet is a mix of strengths and weaknesses. At birth, we’ve been gifted with natural abilities and a personality, which gives us a proclivity towards certain mindsets, some empowering, and some not.

There’s the person who, from the time they were a kid, had a positive outlook on life. No matter what happened, they always seem to see the bright side of things. It’s just part of their personality.

There’s the other who, for whatever reason, has always been shy. They hate being the center of attention, and if they could they would go hide under a rock.

When you look at kids interact in the schoolyard, you can see their personalities in action. You see one kid desperately seeking to play with a group while another desperately trying to avoid the group and retreat in their little corner. You see the talkative, the bossy, the funny, the analytic, the argumentative, etc.

Your personality, your inborn traits, your natural strengths and natural weaknesses make you more susceptible to adopt and develop certain mindsets. That is, some mindsets come naturally to you. Others you must work hard to develop.

Because you’re volitive beings (i.e. we have a will and can make decisions), you can grow. More specifically, you can decide to cultivate empowering mindsets and eliminate disempowering mindsets. That is, no matter the cards you’ve been dealt with at birth, you don’t have to let destructive, debilitating mindsets sabotage your success.

You didn’t decide your personality. You didn’t decide your temperament, your innate attributes, your mental and emotional characteristics you were born with. However, as an adult, by the decision you make and the action you take, you can decide how you act and react. You can participate in your own “programming”.

Your personality has influenced your mindsets. But you’re not a prisoner of your current mindsets. You’re a work in progress and thus you can continue to cultivate them.
