The Positive Attitude Challenge – Count Your Blessings

Do you catch yourself saying things like:

– I’ll be happy when I get married
– I’ll be happy when I graduate from university
– I’ll be happy when I make 1 million dollars
– I’ll be happy when I retire
– I’ll be happy when I find a well-paying job
– I’ll be happy when my children pass their rocky teenage years
– I’ll be happy when my neighbor moves
– I’ll be happy when…

When you do get married, or graduate from university, or make the 1 million dollars, etc., you get a temporary, exhilarating feeling, but you soon go back to wanting something more to feel happy. And here you go again: “I’ll be happy when…”

Constantly delaying happiness is a sure way to end up in the land of regret. While you’re postponing the day when you’ll be happy, life is passing you by. Why wait for tomorrow when you can have it today?

Happiness doesn’t have to depend on your marital status, bank account, degrees, etc. You can choose to be happy. When you begin to count your blessings and to focus on what you have instead of what you don’t have, you’ll realize that you have enough to be happy.

Life is a precious gift, and that in itself is reason enough to be happy. Every dawn you open your eyes is reason enough to be happy and to be overtaken by a sense of happiness. Granted, life can be difficult at times and excruciatingly painful, but being alive makes it worth it.

You have goals and dreams and you work hard to accomplish them. Finding great joy in your journey is just as important as in the destination.

God designed you to live a happy life, and thus, happiness isn’t meant to become an elusive target you chase indefinitely. To cultivate a positive attitude, you must get into the habit of counting your blessings and realize that they are reason enough for you to be happy.
