The Positive Attitude Challenge – Overcome Fear

You’re meant to do great work in the world; you’re endowed with great potential. Regardless of whether your journey thus far has been uneventful or “successful”, you still have a massive contribution to make.

On your journey to achieving your great vision, expect fear to pay you regular visits, like an annoying door-to-door salesman insisting on selling you junk in exchange for your hard-earned money.

In fact, fear will show up uninvited and will try to sell you flashy comfort in exchange for your priceless dreams. And if this doesn’t work, it won’t hesitate to use enticing words to drape your mind with a cloth of negativity and prevent you from pursuing your dreams. It will resort to dirty tactics to shake your attitude and get you to abandon the journey. It will put out smoke and mirrors to shift your attention from what really matters. It will ask, “What if you fail?” and “What if people don’t like it?” and “What if you don’t have what it takes?” and “What if I get hurt?”—all questions designed to make you abort your mission.

Fear is a liar. And you should not allow yourself to be deceived by it. Instead of focusing on what could go wrong, focus on the value you’re adding into people’s lives.

Don’t let fear deter you. Don’t let it shackle you down. Don’t let it paralyze you. And as it relates to this challenge, don’t let it mess with your mindset and your attitude.

Use fear to your advantage, as it can serve as a compass that steers you in the right direction: when seeking to serve others more and to stretch beyond your current level, the fact that fear shows up may very well indicate that you’re on the right path.

This isn’t an invitation to recklessness. It’s an invitation to a life of purpose and contribution. It’s an invitation to doing great work despite the great challenges that stand in your way. It’s an invitation to serving others and making a difference.

Your talents aren’t for you. They’re your equipment for service. They’re your tools to help make the world a better place. They’re meant to be a blessing to someone else. And when you withhold them, you’re depriving the world of your best contribution. And that’s fear’s desire for you.

To cultivate a positive attitude, you must get good at overcoming fear because, throughout your journey, fear will seek to break your positive attitude.
