Watch Out for These 4 Obstacles to Your Personal Growth

Growth is essential to your journey. In fact, if you want to achieve your goals, you’ll need to grow—a lot. However, major obstacles stand in your way. And if you fail to overcome them, you remain stuck outside the gates of your goals.

You must take these obstacles very seriously; they’ve caused many people to stifle their potential and fall short of their goals.

1. Fear

Fear is a great obstacle to your personal growth. Many people fail to grow because they’re afraid of the process of change. The thought of changing elicit the idea of pain in their minds, and because they fear the “painful” process of change, they resist change. They prefer staying on the safe shores of their habits and routines rather than taking the risk of changing for the better.

They also fear that their efforts to change may not yield any results and put them face to face with their lack of willpower (make them feel like failures).

Don’t let fear stunt your growth. Engage in the process of change even when it seems daunting; the benefits outweigh the temporary discomforts.

2. Ignorance

The second obstacle to personal growth is ignorance: people want to change, but they don’t know how to change. They recognize their need for growth in an area of their life, but they don’t see the way forward.

In this day and age, there is no reason to let ignorance prevent you from fostering positive change in your life; you can access how-to information on any topic imaginable. Therefore, regardless of the area of your life you want to grow, you can find the how-to information you need. In fact, you can even leverage the experience of people who have traveled the journey before you.

3. Irresolution

Irresolution means lack of resolution. The road of personal change isn’t always a walk in the park. If you want to savor the results, you must stick with the process. To grow, you must endure the process of growth.

Many people begin the journey of growth, but few finish it. Many people start, but when they face a few obstacles, they give up. Great growth demands great resolve. They start, but they give up at the first obstacle.

4. Excuses

Many people don’t engage in the process of growth because they fail to recognize their need for change. They’re in denial. They refuse to acknowledge that they need to grow. Without realizing their need for change, there’s little hope for change.

Nothing changes until you change, and you don’t change until you recognize your need to change. You’re responsible for your personal growth. You can’t make excuses for your poor results and play the blame game. You must look yourself in the mirror and commit to change. Making excuses and placing blame on others don’t change the fact that you’re not achieving your desired results and that you need to grow. The sooner you can recognize you need to grow, the sooner you can take tangible steps to grow. And the sooner you begin your journey of growth, the better.
