Why You Must Let Go of All Your Excuses

If you’re looking for excuses, you can always find them. Anything can become an excuse to cover your lack of results. Finding excuses is as easy as finding leaves in a forest; they’re everywhere. As the Milli Vanilli song said it, you can even “Blame it on the rain that was falling, falling” or “Blame on the stars that shine at night.” “Whatever you do, don’t put the blame on you.”

Since your early years, you’ve learned to make up excuses to cover up your mishaps and mistakes. You learned to tell your parents why it wasn’t you that broke their favorite picture frame. You became an expert at finding reasons to explain to your teachers why you didn’t complete your homework. You’ve developed your creativity by telling imaginative stories to explain why you’re late all the time.

The thing about excuses is that they may appease your conscience and make you feel justified. However, they don’t help you achieve your desired results. Excuses may give you the sense that you’re off the hook, but they don’t change the fact that you don’t have your desired result. That you blame traffic for you missing your flight doesn’t change the fact that your plane is gone.

In the final analysis, making excuses is counterproductive and disempowering. You control far more than you sometimes recognize. And you’re responsible for the things you control.

To reach your goals, you must give up your excuses and take responsibility for your results. That is, you must decide to do what it takes to achieve your desired results. You may experience setbacks. You may have to detour. But if you’re committed to your goal, you find your way.

One of the most important lessons you can learn about producing remarkable results in your life is this: you’re responsible. That is, you must do your part. Of course, some factors are out of your control, but many are. Within that space, there’s much you can do to achieve favorable results. Let go of your excuses; execute.
