Why You Must Think About Your Tools

If you’re in the park with kids, playing in a sandbox, you would need a small bucket and small shovel to build castles in the sand; these are the right tools to build. However, if your city just got hit with a snow storm, and you must plow the snow that accumulated in your driveway, that small bucket and a tiny shovel can’t help you; they’re not the right tools for this activity.

In many instances, your tools determine whether you succeed or fail at reaching your goals. The wrong tools build frustration and waste time. You’re trying to get something done, but you’re unable to because you don’t have the tool you need.

Most goals you set will require “tools.” These can be as simple as a pair of running shoes and a T-shirt to hit the gym or as sophisticated as high-tech machines to build microchips. Your tools must match your goals if you’re to accomplish your goal. And when you have the luxury to choose, choose the best tools at your disposal.

In fact, always seek to acquire the best tools possible; it will save you time and frustration. When I say the best tool, I don’t mean the most expensive ones; there’s not always a correlation between price and quality. However, do your research to identify the best tools you can buy, given your budget.

If your goal is crucial for you, don’t skimp on your tools that will get you there. If you do, you always pay for it. For instance, if, to save a few dollars, you purchase substandard tools, it will end up costing you more than if you would have purchased the best tools you could afford.

Before you begin your journey toward a great goal, make sure you have the tools you need for your journey (or that able to get the tools you need along the way). Otherwise, you’ll have to abort your mission for lack material.

For example, if you’re launching a YouTube channel, it might be a good idea to invest in a good digital camera, microphone, and a powerful computer to edit your videos.

As you plan for your goal, always give thought to the tools you’ll need for your journey.
