Why Your Preparation is Key to Your Journey

It always takes longer than you first think. When you embark on a journey towards a great goal, there are delays caused by unforeseen events and situations. Furthermore, if there’s a price tag attached to your goal, remember that price tag doesn’t include the “tax”: it always cost more than you first imagine.

The journey towards a great goal is demanding. Don’t be surprised; be prepared. As you plan your journey, budget for the potential delays and additional costs; you’ll need it. It’s better to budget more than you need and have a surplus at the end of your journey than to run out of time or money along the way.

Don’t deceive yourself, thinking that there’ll be no setbacks or unforeseen events. If they catch you unprepared, they’ll jeopardize your goal (when you could have prevented this). Do yourself a favor and, when planning for your journey, take a few extra minutes to consider what you would need if the goal ends up taking longer and costing more than you imagined. Then, adjust your planning and preparation to account for the unpredictable.

The success of your journey rests on your ability to plan and prepare adequately. And it demands that you remain sober as you plan and avoid getting lost in “fantasy land,” thinking that everything will be “all roses.” That thought process would make you vulnerable and ill-prepared for your journey.

However, the promise of challenges shouldn’t prevent you from going after your great goal. If it were easy, it wouldn’t be “great,” and everyone would do it. The fact that the goal is ambitious guarantees challenges, hence the importance of your planning and preparation.

Support your great goals with great preparation. And, despite the obstacles and delays, you’ll reach your destination and cherish your results.
